She attended Santa Barbara City College for two years before transferring to San Francisco State University, where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology. Arey has been an active community member, involved with grassroots organizations such as Protect Calabasas. Her decision to run for office was significantly influenced by what she describes as the irresponsible handling of the Pacific Palisades fire and its aftermath.

Lindsey Horvath assumed office as a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for the 3rd District on December 5, 2022. She is the first millennial and the only renter on the all-female board. Previously, she served as a councilmember and was the longest consecutively serving Mayor for the City of West Hollywood. Her career began in advertising and social justice advocacy, where she founded the Hollywood chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW). Horvath graduated cum laude from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Gender Studies. She also holds a Certificate in Nonprofit Management & Fundraising from UCLA Extension.
