State Representative Seat A District 9 in Idaho State House District 9, Idaho
2026 Primary Election
- Heidi Smith-Takatori — Pastor in Parma, ID
Heidi Smith-Takatori is a lifelong Idahoan, ranch-raised in Lemhi County and a rancher’s daughter. She brings a diverse background to her candidacy, having worked for almost two decades as a veterinarian after earning degrees from the University of Idaho and Washington State University. Later, she became a pastor after graduating from the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary. Residing near Parma in Canyon County, she is also a precinct committeeman, earning Precinct Committeeman of the Year in 2025. Smith-Takatori is running for State Representative to advocate for family farmers, ensure property tax relief through fiscal discipline, and protect parental rights and Idaho families. She aims to curb government spending, restore transparency, and bring common sense back to state government, believing District 9 deserves a voice that represents local values rather than Boise insiders.
- John C. Shirts — Incumbent Idaho House of Representatives, District 9A in ID
John C. Shirts, a fifth-generation Idahoan, grew up on his family’s farm and ranch in Washington County. After earning his bachelor's from the University of Idaho and a law degree, he served as a JAG officer in the U.S. Air Force, including active duty in Korea and prosecuting cases in the Special Victims Unit. He was also an Assistant United States Attorney under the Trump Administration and remains an Air Force Reserve prosecutor. As a staunchly pro-life, pro-gun fiscal conservative, Shirts advocates for low taxes, reduced regulations, and free-market policies. He prioritizes comprehensive veterans’ care and has filed a resolution for congressional term limits, aiming to keep Idaho great by defending individual freedoms and constitutional rights.
