Kevin Gerrard is a Democratic candidate for Idaho State Senate District 31, a lifelong East Idaho resident who lives in Rigby with his husband, Justin. He is a REALTOR® and serves on the Snake River MLS Board of Directors, having previously served with the Ririe Coalition for Community Development and the Ririe Chamber of Commerce. Gerrard is running to address rising costs, housing challenges, and to ensure local voices are heard in the Legislature. Van T. Burtenshaw is a fourth-generation farmer and rancher from Terreton, Idaho, who has served in the Idaho Legislature since 2014. He first represented District 35A in the House before being elected to the Senate in 2018, later moving to District 31 after redistricting. An incumbent Traditional Conservative Republican, he chairs the Senate Resources and Environment Committee and is known for his work on natural resources, water policy, and agricultural issues. His policy positions emphasize fiscal conservatism, Second Amendment rights, and pro-life legislation. Burtenshaw, married with five children and seventeen grandchildren, is seeking a fifth Senate term and is running unopposed in the May 19, 2026 Republican primary.
