An expert on international labor issues, gender equality, and social inclusion, she recently served as a Deputy Assistant Administrator at USAID. In this role, she managed global portfolios focused on women's empowerment and inclusive development. Previously, Athreya was an Economic Inequality Fellow at the Open Society Foundations and the Executive Director of the International Labor Rights Forum. She holds a Ph.D. in cultural anthropology from the University of Michigan and a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania.
