Anthony G. Brown is the 47th Attorney General of Maryland, a position he assumed in January 2023. A member of the Democratic Party, he was born in Huntington, New York, in 1961. Brown is a graduate of Harvard University, where he earned both his undergraduate and law degrees. He also has a distinguished military career, serving for three decades in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve. This service included a tour in Iraq, for which he was awarded the Bronze Star. His political career began in the Maryland House of Delegates (1999-2007), followed by two terms as the state's eighth Lieutenant Governor (2007-2015). Brown later represented Maryland's 4th Congressional District in the U.S. House from 2017 to 2023.

James B. Rutledge, III is a Republican candidate for Maryland Attorney General. A 1986 honors graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law, he has practiced law in Maryland and Georgia for over 30 years. His career includes extensive civil and criminal litigation experience in state and federal courts, with a background in contracts, fraud, and constitutional law. For the past two decades, his practice has focused on estate planning, real estate, and business law. Appointed by Governor Larry Hogan, he served on the Judicial Nominating Commission for Harford County. Rutledge was also a candidate for the Bel Air Board of Commissioners. A widower and resident of Harford County, he has two adult children.
