Alonzo T. Washington is an American politician currently serving as the State Senator for Maryland's 22nd Legislative District. A member of the Democratic Party, he was appointed to this Senate seat in January 2023. This appointment followed more than a decade of service in the Maryland General Assembly, where he represented the same district in the House of Delegates. His tenure in the House of Delegates spanned from his initial appointment in December 2012 until January 2023. Washington was born in Washington, D.C., and is an alumnus of the University of Maryland, College Park, where he earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. Prior to his legislative career, he worked for the Prince George's County Council, serving as a community liaison and later as chief of staff. His political journey began in 2005 with his involvement in the Prince George's County Young Democrats.

His roles on the committee have included Secretary, Vice Chairman, and Chairman; he currently serves as the 1st Vice Chair. In addition to his party involvement, Wass served as a director for the group Reopen Maryland, which advocated for the relaxation of public health restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
