A respected attorney, she previously served eight years in the Missouri House of Representatives, District 83 (2013-2021), holding leadership roles and championing ethics, environmental protection, education, and government accountability. Mitten grew up in University City, Missouri, earning degrees from St. Louis Community College, UM-St. Louis, and Washington University School of Law. She also served on the Richmond Heights City Council. As a former single mother, she understands working family challenges and advocates for reproductive rights, workers' rights, and human rights.
