Prior to his election to Congress, he served in the New Jersey State Senate from 2008 to 2018 and the New Jersey General Assembly from 2002 to 2008, representing the 1st legislative district. A dentist by profession, he operated a private practice in South Jersey for 30 years before retiring. He has also served as the Mayor of Dennis Township and as a Cape May County Freeholder.

Zack Mullock is the two-term Mayor of Cape May, New Jersey, first elected in 2020. Raised in Cape May, he holds a bachelor's degree from Mount Saint Mary's University and an MBA in Finance from Saint Joseph's University. Before his election as mayor, Mullock served on the Cape May City Council and worked as a PGA golf professional and business owner. He is currently running as a Democratic candidate to represent New Jersey's 2nd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
