Raymundo Lara is the incumbent Democratic State Representative for New Mexico's District 34, first elected in 2018. Lara, an instructional coordinator for over 25 years in the Gadsden Independent School District, holds a BA from New Mexico State University. Juan A. Fuentes is a Democratic candidate running for the New Mexico House of Representatives to represent District 34 in the June 2, 2026 primary election. A lifelong resident of the Sunland Park and Santa Teresa area, he graduated from New Mexico State University and has called the region home with his wife, Norma, for over 25 years. Fuentes brings 27 years of experience in local government, including serving as a city manager, where he focused on improving infrastructure, managing public budgets, and addressing community challenges in southern New Mexico. Now a retiree, he continues to contribute to communities by contracting with an organization to assist with capital projects and budgeting.
