Gilda Cobb-Hunter is an incumbent South Carolina House of Representatives member, representing District 95. A social worker by profession, she was the first African American woman elected to the State House from Orangeburg County in 1992 and is now the longest-serving representative. Known as "the conscience of the House," she was inspired to run to be a voice for women of color. Cobb-Hunter supports quality education, accessible and affordable healthcare, competitive pay for state employees, and the Equal Rights Amendment. She notably led efforts to remove the Confederate flag from the statehouse grounds and build the first monument to African Americans on a state capitol. She is seeking re-election.
