Nicole Macri is an incumbent State Representative for Washington's 43rd legislative district, first elected in 2016 and assuming office in January 2017. A Democrat, she is seeking re-election for District 43-Position 1 in the primary scheduled for August 4, 2026. Macri champions progressive causes, focusing on affordable housing, homelessness, and expanding mental health care, as well as fully funding schools and closing the opportunity gap. She serves as Vice Chair of the House Appropriations Committee and is a member of the Healthcare and Wellness Committee. Outside the legislature, she is the Deputy Director for the Downtown Emergency Service Center (DESC) in Seattle, a role she has held since 2002. Alby Clendennin is a Democratic candidate running for election to the Washington House of Representatives, representing District 43-Position 1, with the primary set for August 4, 2026. Clendennin, an openly gay man, grew up in a conservative area of northwest Florida, where the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting moved him to become involved in activism. He views the legislative position as a catalyst for change in the 43rd district and developed a strong connection to Seattle's affirming community and its large "transplant" population after an internship. He currently serves as a Student Affairs Practitioner and Resident Director at the University of Washington. He previously held leadership roles at Appalachian State University, including Graduate Student Body President, and various student affairs positions at the University of West Florida.
