About
David Schweikert is an incumbent Republican Congressman representing Arizona’s 1st Congressional District. He has announced his candidacy for Arizona Governor in the 2026 Republican primary, choosing not to seek re-election to his congressional seat. Throughout his time in Washington, he has introduced legislation related to Colorado River water distribution and critical mineral tax credits. Schweikert has taken positions supporting cuts to Medicaid and Social Security, advocating for a complete abortion ban without exceptions, and voting against certifying the 2020 election. He has also been found guilty of ethics violations. He joins a competitive and "messy" Republican gubernatorial primary field.
