About
Matthew Newton is a judge for the North Carolina District Court in District 26, Seat 16, an office he assumed on January 1, 2023. He is a graduate of Myers Park High School in Charlotte. Newton earned a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington and a J.D. from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law. His legal career includes working as an attorney and managing partner at the law firm of Newton & Arroyo, PLLC. Prior to his judgeship, he was elected to the Charlotte City Council for District 5 in 2017 and served two terms. He also served as the chair of the Mecklenburg County Democratic Party from 2015 to 2017.
