Pete Tjemsland worked for the City of Sequim for 35 years, starting in 1989 as a laborer and holding various positions, including Maintenance Worker and Water Treatment Plant Operator, before becoming the Utilities Manager in 2008. He retired from this role in June 2024. Tjemsland also served as Chief Equipment Operator with the U.S. Navy Seabees from 1982 to 2003, with five deployments that included assignments in Beirut, Lebanon, and during Desert Storm. In February 2025, he was one of eight candidates interviewed for a vacant seat on the City Council.
