Abi Boatman

Elle Abigail "Abi" Boatman is an incumbent Democratic member of the Kansas House of Representatives, representing District 86 in southeast Wichita since January 2026. She was appointed to fill a vacant seat and is now seeking re-election in the 2026 primary. A former C-130 crew chief in the U.S. Air Force, she was honorably discharged in 2011 after coming out as transgender. Boatman holds a bachelor's degree from Wichita State University and has worked as a court transcriptionist and university administrator. She co-founded the Wichita Transgender Community Network and is an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights. She serves on committees including Education and Veterans and Military, and has sponsored legislation to expand Medicaid eligibility through the Affordable Healthcare for Kansans program.
