Adam Smith is the incumbent U.S. Representative for Washington's 9th congressional district, a position he has held as a Democrat since 1997. Born in 1965, he previously served as a lawyer, a prosecutor for the City of Seattle, and a judge pro tempore, after earning degrees from Fordham University and the University of Washington School of Law. Before Congress, he was the youngest state senator in Washington. As the Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee, Smith advocates for cautious international engagement, opposing preemptive military action. He also champions local community project funding for infrastructure and workforce training, and condemns hate crimes and gun violence. Smith is seeking reelection in 2026.
