He is the first Dominican-American and first formerly undocumented immigrant to serve in the U.S. Congress. He serves on the House Committee on Appropriations and the Budget Committee. Prior to his congressional tenure, Espaillat served in the New York State Senate and State Assembly. He is a steadfast advocate for affordable housing, immigration reform, and working-class families.
