A first-time candidate, he ran for U.S. Senate in the 2026 Democratic primary on a platform of defending democracy, Supreme Court and campaign finance reform, protecting elections and voting rights, expanding health care, and confronting the climate crisis; he suspended his campaign on May 27, 2026, and endorsed Sen. Ed Markey.
