She previously served for fifteen years in the Cumberland County District Attorney's Office, where she specialized in prosecuting cold case sexual assaults. Flowers earned her Bachelor of Arts in English from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in 2005 and her Juris Doctor from NCCU School of Law in 2008. She is also the chairwoman of the Cape Fear Valley Health System Board of Trustees.
