Alma Hernandez

Alma Hernandez is an Arizona State Representative seeking a State Senate seat. A Tucson native with degrees in Public Health from the University of Arizona, she hails from a politically prominent family. Hernandez is known for her independent voting record, sometimes bucking her own party, which led to sanctions from her district’s Democratic committee. She is Jewish and supportive of Israel. Her candidacy for the 2026 primary faces a legal challenge over alleged unpaid campaign finance fines, although she has overcome similar challenges previously. She is challenging former Tucson City Council member Rocque Perez for the nomination.
