Dr. Alma Cobb Hobbs has served as a Town Commissioner in Farmville for her first term, which ends in 2025. She had a 36-year career with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), retiring in 2013 after serving as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Administration. In this role, she led efforts to transform the department's culture. Her career with the USDA also included roles such as Dean of Agriculture at Virginia State University, and national leadership positions within the 4-H youth development program. She was inducted into the National 4-H Hall of Fame in 2015. Dr. Hobbs earned her Doctorate and Master's degrees from North Carolina State University and a Bachelor's degree from North Carolina Central University. She also attended the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
