Amanda Maris

Amanda Maris has been a District Court Judge in Durham since Governor Roy Cooper appointed her in July 2017. She was subsequently re-elected in 2018 and 2022. Before becoming a judge, she served as an Assistant Public Defender for nearly 11 years, representing clients in both juvenile and adult courts. Maris received her law degree from North Carolina Central University in 2006. She has also been a volunteer Guardian ad Litem, a family law research assistant, and an adjunct professor of legal writing at her alma mater.
