Amber M. Baker was born in Louisville, Kentucky. She earned a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Winston-Salem State University, and a Master of Arts and a Ph.D. in educational leadership and administration from The Ohio State University. Before her election to the General Assembly in 2020, Baker was the principal of Kimberley Park Elementary School in Winston-Salem from 2008 to 2019. She has also worked as a principal consultant with Beyond Expectations Consultants.
