Andy Pernsteiner was appointed and sworn in as Sheriff by the Board of Jefferson County Commissioners in February 2025, having previously served as acting sheriff since January 2025 following the retirement of Sheriff Joe Nole. He has been with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office for over 27 years, serving as undersheriff for 5½ years before his appointment. He has worked under five different sheriffs and has been in a leadership position for 18 years.
