Annabelle Cortez was appointed to the Superior Court of California for the County of Los Angeles in 2012 by Governor Jerry Brown. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from UC San Diego and her Juris Doctorate from UC Law, San Francisco (formerly UC Hastings College of the Law) in 1995. Before her appointment, she worked as a labor and employment attorney for the Judicial Council, providing legal support to courts in Southern California. Prior to that, she represented the United Farm Workers of America and other low-wage workers in labor, employment, and immigration law. She also served as Western regional counsel for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund in 2007 and was an attorney with the Marcos Camacho Law Corporation from 1995 to 2007.
