Anne M. Carney is an American Democratic politician and attorney currently serving in the Maine State Senate, representing District 29 which includes Cape Elizabeth, South Portland, and part of Scarborough. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, she holds a B.A. from Haverford College, an M.T.S. from Harvard University, and a J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law. Carney practiced employment, civil rights, and municipal law for 16 years and was a pro bono attorney before her political career. She previously served in the Maine House of Representatives from 2018-2020. In the Senate, she chairs the Judiciary Committee and Joint Rules Committee, and is a member of the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Committee. Senator Carney is currently seeking re-election in the 2026 Democratic primary.
