Antonio F. D. Cabral immigrated to the United States with his family when he was 14 years old. He earned an associate's degree from Bristol Community College and a bachelor's degree in history from UMass Dartmouth, then pursued graduate studies at Brown University. A former public school teacher, he was elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives in November 1990 and represents the 13th Bristol District of New Bedford. He chairs the Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight and leads the Gateway Cities Legislative Caucus and the Portuguese American Legislative Caucus.
