Avery Crump is the District Attorney for the 24th Prosecutorial District, which encompasses Guilford County, North Carolina. She was first elected in 2018 and sworn into office on January 1, 2019, becoming the first African American and female District Attorney in the county's history. Her current term ends on December 31, 2026. Prior to her role as District Attorney, Crump served as a District Court Judge in Guilford County from 2009 to 2018. Her legal career began in 1997 as an assistant district attorney in Bronx County, New York. She returned to North Carolina in 1999 and became an assistant district attorney for Guilford County in 2000, a position she held for nine years. Crump earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1994 and her J.D. from North Carolina Central University School of Law in 1997.
