B. Phil Howell was elected Sheriff of Ashe County in 2018 and has over 16 years of law enforcement experience. As the elected Chief Law Enforcement Officer, he is responsible for all operations of the Ashe County Sheriff's Office, which includes law enforcement, court duties, and corrections. His certifications include the NC Sheriff's Leadership Institute Program (2018-2020), Advanced Law Enforcement Certification, and Specialized Firearms Instructor Certification, among others. He is also a recipient of the NC Heroism Award (2008).
