Appointed by Governor Doug Burgum in 2017, he took office in March of that year. Born in 1982, Judge Johnson earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Mary in 2004 and his Juris Doctor from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 2008. Prior to his judicial appointment, he maintained a private legal practice, served as Public Defender for the Northwest Judicial District from 2012-2017, and acted as City Attorney for several North Dakota cities. He is listed as a nonpartisan candidate who champions independent, people-powered, and anti-corruption campaigns.
