Brian Chism is a native of Brunswick County and a graduate of South Brunswick High School. He began his career with the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) in 2004. Prior to joining law enforcement, he worked for a plumbing company for seven years. Throughout his two-decade career at the BCSO, he has worked in nearly every division, including Patrol, K-9, Narcotics, Special Operations, and Criminal Investigations. He progressed through the ranks, serving as a Division Commander overseeing areas like Animal Protective Services and 911 Communications. In August 2022, he was promoted to Chief Deputy. On May 1, 2023, he was appointed Sheriff by the Board of Commissioners upon the retirement of the previous sheriff, John W. Ingram, V. Chism is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
