Brooke Elizabeth Lierman

Brooke Elizabeth Lierman is the 34th Comptroller of Maryland, a statewide office she has held since January 2023. A member of the Democratic Party, Lierman holds the distinction of being the first woman independently elected to a constitutional office in Maryland's history. Prior to her election as Comptroller, she served for eight years in the Maryland House of Delegates, representing District 46 in Baltimore City. An attorney by profession, she practiced as a civil rights and disability rights lawyer. Lierman earned her bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College and her Juris Doctor from the University of Texas at Austin School of Law. Her early career included roles on several political campaigns and at the Center for American Progress.
