Carl Ford was born in Rowan County, North Carolina, and graduated from A.L. Brown High School. He attended Rowan Technical College, where he earned a certificate in textiles, and also attended the North Carolina College of Textiles. His professional career began at Cannon Mills and later as a manager at Fryes Roller Rink. In 1982, he started working at WRKB radio, and in 1992, he founded Ford Broadcasting after purchasing WRKB and WRNA. Ford's political career includes serving as a Rowan County Commissioner from 2008 to 2012. He was then elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives for the 76th district, serving three terms from 2013 to 2019. He has been a member of the North Carolina State Senate, representing District 33, since January 2019.
