Chad Magendanz is a public school teacher in the Bellevue School District and a former two-term State Representative for the 5th Legislative District, serving from 2013 to 2017. He previously served on the Issaquah School Board, including as president. Magendanz served in the United States Navy as a nuclear submarine officer from 1985 to 1997. He earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Cornell University and a Master of Arts in teaching from Central Washington University. He and his wife have lived in the district for over 30 years.
