Charles Kemp is the current mayor of Fairmont, North Carolina, and has the longest tenure of any elected official in the town's history, with 43 years of service. He was serving his third term as of late 2021. His current term is set to expire in December 2025. Previously, he served as mayor from 2005 to 2013 and was a Fairmont Town Commissioner for 28 years. Before his career in politics, Kemp worked as an educator in the public school system for 40 years.
