Charles Smith was born and raised in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He earned a bachelor's degree from Emory and Henry College in 2014 and a J.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2017. Prior to his election, he worked as an Assistant District Attorney in Cumberland County, where he primarily handled domestic violence and child abuse cases. He later transitioned to private practice as an attorney with Anderson, Johnson, Lawrence & Butler, LLP. He assumed office as the representative for District 44 on January 1, 2023. He lives in Fayetteville with his wife, Mary Kelly.
