Chris Stearns, a member of the Navajo Nation, is an incumbent Democratic State Representative for Washington's 47th legislative district, Position 2. He is seeking re-election in 2026. Stearns assumed office in January 2023 and currently serves as Speaker Pro Tem in the State House, where he presides over floor debates. He also chairs the Members of Color Caucus and is Vice-Chair of the State Government and Tribal Relations Committee. A lawyer specializing in Indian law, Stearns has dedicated his career to protecting the rights of Native Americans and vulnerable communities, working at both state and federal levels. His extensive public service includes being the first Native American elected to the Auburn City Council and serving as Director of Indian Affairs for the U.S. Department of Energy under President Bill Clinton. He resides in Auburn, Washington.
