Christopher Owenby

Christopher 'Chuck' Owenby is the current Sheriff of Transylvania County, a position he has held since 2024. A native of Transylvania County, he graduated from Brevard High School in 1994 and earned a Bachelor of Sociology with a concentration in Criminal Justice from Mars Hill University in 2000. His career with the Transylvania County Sheriff's Office began in 2002. He has served in various capacities, including Patrol (2002-2004, 2005-2016), School Resource Officer (2004-2005), Sergeant on Patrol (2016-2017), Lieutenant of Professional Standards & Training (2017-2022), and Chief Deputy (2022-2024), before being elected Sheriff. He is also a graduate of the VISION program at Blue Ridge Community College.
