Craig N. Mathies, Sr. is a Democratic politician serving as the Commissioner for District 1 on the Somerset County Board of County Commissioners in Maryland. First assuming office in December 2010, he later served as the board's president from 2018 to 2022. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mathies holds degrees from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Norfolk Theological Seminary, and Virginia Union University. Beyond his public service as a county commissioner, he has been the pastor of Zion Baptist Church in Cambridge, Maryland, since 2002. Mathies is a former NAACP chapter president and serves on the Tri-County Council. He is married and has two children.
