Cynthia Ball was born in Franklin County, North Carolina. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and an MBA from Virginia Commonwealth University. She also pursued doctoral coursework in Human Resources and Organizational Development at North Carolina State University. Her career includes roles in marketing research, directing Development and External Affairs programs at William Peace University and NC State University, and serving as the Executive Director for one of NC State's foundations. She is also a certified mediator. Ball was first elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives in 2016 and has been re-elected in subsequent elections. She has held several leadership positions within the House Democratic Caucus, including Freshman Democratic Chair, Democratic Whip, and currently serves as the House Deputy Democratic Leader.
