He has a background in higher education and college counseling, having worked for over 30 years as the director of counseling services at Southern Connecticut State University. He is also a Red Cross mental health first responder and has assisted in relief efforts for major events like Hurricane Katrina and the Sandy Hook shooting. His campaign was inspired by running every street in the city, which he states gave him a unique, block-by-block perspective on the community's needs.
