David M. Viafore has a long history of public service in Fircrest, having previously served on the City Council for 24 years, including 14 years as Mayor. He returned to the council after winning a seat in a subsequent election. He owns Viafore's Italian Delicatessen in Fircrest, a business he bought at age 20. An investigation in 2003 found that he had exceeded his authority as mayor by interfering with city administration.
