David Twiddy is a lifelong resident of Dare County, having grown up in East Lake and graduated from Manteo High School in 1988. He began working for Dare County Schools the same year, starting as a school bus driver while still in high school. He worked his way up in the school system, eventually serving as the Transportation Director before retiring in January 2016. Following his retirement, Twiddy was elected to the Dare County Board of Education, where he is now serving his third term and is the current Chairman. He has announced his candidacy for the Dare County Board of Commissioners in the 2026 election.
