Derrick J Lente

Derrick J. Lente is an American politician, attorney, and business owner serving as a Democratic State Representative for New Mexico's 65th District since 2017. Born in Sandia Pueblo, New Mexico, he earned his BA and JD from the University of New Mexico. He chairs the House Taxation & Revenue Committee and the Interim Revenue Stabilization & Tax Policy Committee. With over 20 years of experience in New Mexico water issues, Lente prioritizes water quality, environmental protection for future generations, and balancing water appropriation for diverse groups including Native Americans and agriculture. He has been a proponent of funding raises for state employees and will appear on the Democratic primary ballot in June 2026, seeking re-election to his seat.
