Douglas Kilpatrick joined the South Bay Fire District as a volunteer in 1992. He served for 26 years as a volunteer firefighter and medical First Responder, eventually being promoted to Battalion Chief and then Assistant Chief. He retired from active service in June 2018 and was elected as a fire commissioner eighteen months later. His professional career outside the fire service includes working for the state of Washington as an Energy/Utility Engineer with the State Energy Office, the Utilities and Transportation Commission, and the Department of Enterprise Services.
