Dupre L. Kelly is the incumbent City Council Member for Newark's West Ward, elected in a runoff on June 14, 2022, and taking office on July 1, 2022. Born and raised in Newark's West Ward, he is a graduate of Essex County Vocational and Technical High School and attended Shaw University. Kelly is a founding member of the multi-platinum hip-hop group Lords of the Underground and is recognized as the first platinum-selling hip-hop artist in the United States to be elected to public office. He also founded the nonprofit organization 211 Community Impact, focusing on community empowerment.
