Dustin D. Smith is the incumbent Sheriff of Cherokee County, elected in 2022. He was born and raised in the county, graduated from Murphy High School, and has been in law enforcement since 2000. He began his career with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office on his 21st birthday. Before being elected Sheriff, he served as the Assistant Chief for the Murphy Police Department.
