Eldon Sharpe "Buck" Newton III is an American lawyer and politician serving as a Republican state senator for North Carolina's 4th district, which includes Wilson, Greene, and Wayne counties. A native of Wilson, North Carolina, he graduated from Hunt High School, received a bachelor's degree in political science from Appalachian State University, and earned a law degree from Campbell University School of Law. After college, he worked as an aide to Senator Jesse Helms. He has practiced law at his firm, Newton and Lee, in Wilson. Newton previously served in the State Senate after being elected in 2010. In 2016, he was the Republican nominee for North Carolina Attorney General but was unsuccessful. He was elected to the State Senate again in 2022 and re-elected in 2024.
