Eleni Kounalakis is the 50th Lieutenant Governor of California and the first woman elected to the office. A Democrat, she previously served as the U.S. Ambassador to Hungary under President Obama from 2010 to 2013. Before entering public service, she was president of AKT Development, a Sacramento-based real estate firm. She earned her BA from Dartmouth College and an MBA from UC Berkeley. Kounalakis dropped her gubernatorial bid to run for California Treasurer in the 2026 election.
