He grew up in Boston and graduated from Columbia University as an archaeological anthropologist. Currently, he is the Cultural Resources Program Manager for San Juan Island National Historical Park. Santiago is also a volunteer wildland firefighter, a member of the San Juan Historical Society, and an organizer for the local chapter of Friday Harbor Green Drinks.
